Both physiotherapists at MozgásKlinika Retek utca, in Budapest’s 2nd district, list neck pain and neck stiffness among their areas of interest. One of them also lists the treatment of the rounded upper back often called a “dowager’s hump” and related posture changes. This article presents the clinic’s approach. It does not replace an examination.
What may be behind neck complaints?
Pain depends on many factors, and the same symptom can appear alongside different functional problems. With the neck, posture is often mentioned, but the picture is more nuanced: staying in the same loading position for a long time, reduced variety of movement and individual load tolerance can together influence the complaints.
This is why treatment starts with an examination and not with a general set of neck exercises.
What does the physiotherapist look at?
At the 60-minute first assessment you talk through your complaints and earlier injuries, then a physical examination and a posture analysis follow. The physiotherapist looks for what is limiting your movement and how much load your body can take at the moment. If you have medical findings, bring them with you.
Which treatments may be used?
- Manual therapy: hands-on techniques that mainly aim to release joint restrictions and increase range of motion.
- Physiotherapy: personalised exercises to develop proper muscle activation, movement control and load tolerance.
- Combined therapy: both in one session; manual therapy can also be complemented by physical therapy.
You get the recommendation after the examination, and treatment starts in the same session.
Is there one correct posture?
In the MozgásKlinika approach posture is not a static good or bad position. It is a dynamic, continuously regulated function that depends on load. The goal is therefore not to learn one “correct” pose, but to help your body work in a more varied way and tolerate load better. The article on desk work and posture goes into detail.
Where can you find more?
A separate article explains the difference between the treatment types. The therapists are introduced on the team page, and prices are on the prices page.
